Nelly O. feat. Barbie & Ken

From an art-theoretical point of view, experimental and interdisciplinary designs that no longer follow an established ritual and do not offer a linear plotline, but rather engage in new space and plot situations and their yet untested temporal possibilities, distinguish themselves as a space for coding the visionary. Within this scheme, contemporary art as a medium with variable means of creating presence generates an ideal realm of possibilities for paradox and ephemeral imaging.

Freedom begins with technical perfection

Since its invention, virtual reality, the „human-machine-interface of the future“, is often perceived as a simulation of reality. In this context, its apperance is usually geared towards familiar perceptual environments and the perceptual conditioning of human beings. On one hand this represents a misunderstanding of the nature of a simulation, on the other hand it greatly constrains the idea of virtual reality.

and fails because of limited theoretical thinking

From the beginning, regulated aesthetic concepts and traditional artistic disciplines are closely connected, both socially and politically. Being aware of this unfortunate interdependence, the modern concept rejects the restauration of pre-modern thinking in classical dictatorial art systems; systems in which mythology and religion have a system-preserving significance and therefore a defined political function and commitment. For the same reasons it does not chronicle horror visions of current events or personality structures of living and dead psychopaths.

Through the voluntary departure from a production method grounded in traditional cultural – and for that very reason likely successful – approaches, this concept consistently rejects a collaboration with the colonial dreams of politicians by initiating a paradigm shift from art proclaimed as a real space for experiencing diffusely-social (mass-)significance or as politically motivated compensatory special needs educational program back to art as an individualistic, first and foremost artistical, sometimes abstract approach to problem solving - the central idea of modern art.

Conclusion: artistic freedom starts (begins) in the mind

From an art-theoretical point of view, our artistic approach is therefore to be understood as „post“-postmodern and as wilful action against the proclamation of the loss of great myths and against the evocation of a „The Collapse of the Grand Narrative“ [Lyotard]; it shapes in reality and virtually a journey against the draw of such paradox wishful utopias.
